No.52
There seems to be a great deal of elephants in rooms these days. Things we know are there, issues that we acknowledge for the most part but ignore for the rest. If we actually started talking about the elephants who knows what realms of chaos we might walk into; it seems safer to watch beasts out of the corner of your eye and continue on with whatever it was you were doing. Speaking about them might cause a stampede, or at the very least an angry glare. We are told that just continuing is enough, that doing our best is plenty—but it isn't. We should be shouting about elephants.
ON THE JOURNAL THIS WEEK:
This Slovenian poem in its entirety, as I took a line for the 100 day project but felt it was too beautiful not to have somewhere as a whole. Also some flash fiction, and some brief rambling about grass and sky and sun.
WORK AND BOOK-RELATED UPDATES:
- the Spanish lettering for their edition of The Illustrated Book of Sayings is coming along nicely, and now that everything is scanned in, I get to spend many hours in Photoshop sewing the illustrations back together
- a short while ago I finished up the album art for an upcoming release by a Japanese band, which I will be able to show you soon (exciting)
- after various conversations with various publishers, we are edging ever-closer to knowing where my next book will be living, which is both ridiculous and lovely in the extreme
- there are many other things happening that I'm a) keeping secret, b) have told you about already or c) have forgotten
THIS WEEK I FELL IN LOVE WITH:
Illustrations (and everything really) by Brazil-based Nadiuska and Priscila Furtado.
The end.
How strange, really, the routines that we tie ourselves to, the people who we do and don't feel excited to see. I've been feeling less and less like I want to be tied to here (quite where 'here' is I'm not sure), and certain that when I'm noticing on the calendar that it's June next year, I will be somewhere else.
Farewell, see you next sometime.
