No.27
This newsletter comes to you from a Van Houtte coffee shop deep in French-speaking in Québec, Canada. This week has felt so long, so slow, so not-at-all productive, and yet I look back now and think damn, I actually got a bunch done—though I'm sure that in a parallel universe I just slept all week. Certain things (urgent things) got put off again, sure, but in seven days the winds will have changed again, and I'll be back in my cold Georgian home in Bath. I've found it positively maddening to survive without my scanner and 99% of my materials this past couple of weeks, and now have a backlog of small illustrations and paintings that I rather hope I'm able to keep pristine during their journey home. Sigh, let's proceed.
THINGS THAT HAPPENED ON THE BLOG THIS WEEK:
An update on all things book, praises to Society6 for making travel mugs available (see below), and some hand-lettered Jeanette Winterson. I suppose it's worth noting that I've brushed off and made shiny both my Society6 store, and the one on my main site.
This means that the prints of untranslatable words (and soon prints from The Illustrated Book of Sayings) now come in two different sizes, at less monies. In addition, if you live in the US postage is ridiculously fast and inexpensive. If you don't live in the US, I did my best. And Society6 means I am able to offer you all manner of cool things, like cushions and canvas prints and phone cases.
So just shout at me if you'd like a particular design on something of some sort, and we shall get to work, because this is fun. Pssst! They have free shipping on everything today!
BOOK-RELATED NEWS:
On Tuesday of last week (the 18th of October to be more precise), I had a phone call with my coolest-editor-in-the-history-of-all-editors, Kaitlin Ketchum. We spoke about how cool she is (obviously), how rainy it was in Canada, and how weird it was that we were finally in the same timezone. We then proceeded only to TALK ABOUT IDEAS FOR THE NEXT BOOK.
I obviously can't tell you anything, but once I get my head and body realigned and back on Greenwich Mean Time, I'll get to work. It's exciting to the point of madness, which means that I'm mostly just stumbling around blindly banging into things.
Another book-related happening of note: I'll be headed to Rome in December to speak at the Più libri più liberi literary festival. It looks to be absolutely bonkers and because I've never been to Rome before, I'm obviously going to recreate the Audrey Hepburn film Roman Holiday in its entirety.
THING NOBODY ELSE HAS SEEN:
This rather dizzying drawing made when I was living in Morocco (before all book things came into existence). Yes, it took ages and yes, it's possible that I've posted this here before, though I don't think so.
p.s. Don't look at it for too long otherwise your eyes might break.
The end.
The last two songs that have played in here have been ABBA, and now Elvis. I'm not sure how to tell this establishment that it's kind of hard to concentrate with the King of Rock and Roll pouring through the speakers (don't be cruel).
Thank you also, for sending me your thoughts about the newsletter last week—I have taken them all under my wet-weather wings and will be implementing any small changes soon.
Farewell, see you next sometime.
