Hello there, welcome to what feels like no time has passed in between newsletters at all. The rain has followed me across Canada, which is slightly awful, and another three hours this way that way around the globe has meant circadian rhythms are firmly a thing of the past.
THINGS THAT HAPPENED ON THE BLOG THIS WEEK:
Surprisingly, several things, although I'm becoming increasingly aware that a blog might not necessarily be able to compete when it comes to the instantaneous sharing nature of Instagram or Twitter, and also not necessarily the best place for publishing writing of any sort. This upshot of this is:Â I will probably spend far too many hours reshuffling/redesigning my website and everything in it quite soon.
But, anyway, this week: illness (which is still following me around like a lost animal), somewhat ordered thinking (partly included below), an illustration from my new book, and a couple of found images.
8. How many lives can one reasonably get away with living?
9. Didn’t realise that a cup was just a small bowl. And aren’t split-peas the same thing as lentils?
10. 2:30pm, Alaska time.
11. Don’t bother with the giving of yourself to people who aren’t going to hold your head when you sob in a most violent and ungraceful manner.
12. Part of going away is noticing whether or not the place you left behind is one you want to return to.
13. Procrastination by numbers.
14. Whenever somebody leaves the door open my heart relaxes a little, secretly fearing that it might in fact be trapped in this world of free wifi and wall planters forever.
BOOK-RELATED NEWS:
During the week, the Japanese edition of The Illustrated Book of Sayings was published, and I'm increasingly alarmed (by that I mean delighted) at how many copies they have precariously piled up in bookstores over there. You can find streams of images of this phenomenon on the Twitter page of the publisher, Sogensha, and I can't read Japanese so I'm just going to assume they're saying good things about it over there.
Also in book news, and not to be overshadowed by the above, the Spanish edition of Lost in Translation is out and about! It looks so serene by comparison (pictured below), and actually now I come to think about it, I could probably write a book about how very different publishing books is depending on the country and language and culture.
THINGS NOBODY ELSE HAS SEEN:
There are sadly no actual things in this section today, due to a lack of scanning equipment. But just you wait until I get back from Canada, home to Bath (photo below), because I've been busy on the creation front and you shall be first to hear about it.
