March, a list:
At lunch I select two apples and cut each one into halves, giving us both a half from each different apple in case one is much better than the other
You do not know or notice this
I decided to count all of the books in the house at present (543)
The cherry tree outside near the road has acquired its first shades of pale pink
21 out of the 84 days so far this year have contained a migraine
If you look upwards and even a little bit closely you will see that all of the feathered things are currently building nests
Sometimes you cannot think a single useful thought unless you completely close the door and do not apologise for doing it
Of late I have maintained an incredible distraction
“I've seen women insist on cleaning everything in the house before they could sit down to write... and you know it's a funny thing about housecleaning... it never comes to an end. Perfect way to stop a woman. A woman must be careful to not allow over-responsibility (or over-respectability) to steal her necessary creative rests, riffs, and raptures. She simply must put her foot down and say no to half of what she believes she “should” be doing. Art is not meant to be created in stolen moments only.” — Clarissa Pinkola Estés
17:34 is too early to sleep
chiaroscuro, strong contrasts between light and dark
A book about woman who looks at a tree one day and just gets stuck there
I read an article that said there might be such a thing as too many sighs
Romance can be found in some strange places, for example: flossing teeth by candlelight
Three times in the last two days an extremely large bumblebee (the same one for all I know) has knocked repeatedly but politely against the office window
It is a theme of early spring that one begins to plot large and impractical escapes
THIS WEEK I FELL IN LOVE WITH:
Work by Sydney-based painted Phoebe Stone.
“It seemed to me at that moment that not a single man on earth had ever spoken the truth.”
“I want to live for a time without irony, without rhetoric, in a cool, solid metaphor. A conch shell, that would be nice.”
— Carol Shields, Mary Swann
Every single item on your list here nurtures my soul, including the one about your unfortunate migraines--I'm so sorry to hear that you're having to contend with these. I say that this, too, is nurturing because it removes all legitimacy from whatever reasons I may concoct for not doing my own creative work. Just look at what you put in the world, against all that would attempt to hold you back! Thanks for the emboldening message in the quote by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and for all of the artists you've fallen in love with along the way, including Phoebe Stone. I'm so glad to have stumbled upon your work in Orion. You've made my Sunday. morning!!
Holy. Moly. This was as epic as Howl. You're a beautiful mind, thank you for sharing yourself.
