No.10
We're into double digits people, and there ain't no going back now. It has occurred to me that, rather ironically, the 'Sometimes Newsletter' is fast becoming a very timely regular affair. But do I mind? No, not a bit. It's fun to keep you all updated, after both exciting weeks and slow ones (this was both and it felt a thousand years longer than normal).
THINGS THAT HAPPENED ON THE BLOG THIS WEEK:
Jacksquat. I was away most of the week in the north of England, which can be referred to here as The Land of No Internet. This meant that I couldn't get ahold of 3G long enough to send you all photos of the cats I was inevitably befriending. Shame, I know. Here is a nice painting to console you (and me).
BOOK-RELATED NEWS:
I received (and duly opened) an early US copy of my new book, The Illustrated Book of Sayings. It is A BEAUTY, and I cannot send enough thank yous to Ten Speed Press and my loveliest editor ever, Kaitlin, for helping me create this. I was so nervous opening the parcel, as there are always mixed feelings when seeing a project in its final form—you feel at once both very complete and very exposed.
I'm just delighted that it turned out good after months of months of hard work (and guess work), that I'm lucky enough to get to open the slightly very different UK edition soon too, and that this seems to be my job.Â
IN OTHER NEWS:
I'm buying and reading too many books to be even averagely productive right now.
I recently bought a different, new-age type of yoghurt with coconut in.
I just thought of at least 4 more books I need.
The postman doesn't understand that people can be artists with home studios, and that they need to order a lot of materials which translates as a lots of parcel deliveries and he therefore referred to me as a 'demon orderer'. I resent this.
I found a really old gift card with £27.04 on it.
There isn't a 'things nobody else has seen, ever' section in the newsletter this week, because if I'm not more frugal with them, they will eventually be none left.
I have secrets.
The end.
This was a good one, I feel. Short but formed well with a distinct lack of illustrations which will be corrected next time. In the meantime, you can pre-order the new book and then wait over 2 months to receive it BECAUSE IT WILL BE PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 13th OH THE EXCITEMENT.
Pre-Order The Illustrated Book of Sayings!
Farewell, see you next sometime.
